WILMA LODE
Wilma Alida Jeanette Lode, the daughter of Arie and Dena (Keizer) Valentine was born October 28, 1921 in Doon, Iowa. As a child, she moved with her parents to the Archer, Sanborn and Sheldon area, where she graduated from the Sanborn Christian School and the Sheldon High School. Wilma was united in marriage to Gerald Vos on August 12, 1941 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. After their marriage the couple lived in Matlock, Iowa; Glenwood, Minnesota; Denver, Colorado and Sheldon, Iowa. She helped her husband as a secretary/bookkeeper in his businesses and she also worked for Gary Doppenberg as a secretary/bookkeeper. Gerald passed away on September 21, 1972 in Sheldon. On August 2, 1974, she was united in marriage to Henry Lode in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple lived on a farm north of Sheldon, before moving into Sheldon. Wilma passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2006, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center ~ Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 84 years, 6 months and 27 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed embroidering, camping and spending her winters in Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Lode of Sheldon, IA; a daughter and her husband, Carol and Duane Schmidt of Edgerton, MN; a son, Gary and his wife, Wanda Vos of Sheldon, IA; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; 2 step daughters, Elaine and her husband, Merlyn Vander Lee and Shirley and her husband, Edgar Jager all of Sheldon, IA; a step son-in-law, Arlan and his wife Neva Van Wyk all of Sheldon, IA; 10 step grandchildren and 20 step great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Minnie and her husband Bill Jansen of Sheldon, IA; Ann Koele of Denver, CO; 3 sisters-in-law, Alvera Valentine of Red Wing MN; Mag Mulder of Charles City, IA and Jessie Vos of Sanborn, IA; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald; a son-in-law, Arvin Smit; and a great-grandson, Anthony Vos; a step-daughter, Donna Van Wyk; her parents, and a brother, Nick Valentine.
