WILLIAM R. EWOLDT
William Roy Ewoldt, the son of Roy William Ewoldt and Marilyn Hedin Ewoldt, was born in Primghar, Iowa, on March 23, 1955. Bill attended elementary, junior high and high school in Paullina, graduating in 1973. While in high school, he was active in band, baseball, basketball and golf. He attended Drake University, majoring in accounting. While at Drake, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity and participated in intramural sports. During his summers, Bill coached little league baseball in Paullina. Following college, he was employed as an accountant for Charles Gabus Ford and Younkers in Des Moines. Bill also worked in the accounting department for Intel Com in Kansas City, Wake Island, Louisville and Dallas. While in Kansas City, he was active in the Faith Presbyterian Church and was on the church softball and bowling team.
Illness forced Bill to retire to Sioux City, IA, in 1997. During that time, he made many friends at Independence Village where he resided. Bill enjoyed sharing his love of music and sports with those around him. Bill will be remembered for his positive outlook, despite his many health challenges, and also for his ready smile and quick sense of humor. Bill always said that the only official World Series occurred when the Yankees were in it.
Many of Bill’s favorite memories included spending time with his children, Roy and Melissa. He was very proud of their accomplishments. Son, Roy, is a PFC in the Army Reserve and is stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Daughter, Melissa, is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin – Stout in Menomonie, WI.
Bill passed away on December 30th at Avera-McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, after a six week illness.
He is survived by his children, Roy and Melissa Ewoldt; mother, Marilyn Ewoldt of Paullina, IA; sister, Holli Safley and her husband, Bill of Peterson, IA; brother, David Ewoldt of St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law, Richard Keyser of Houston, TX; nieces, Kristen Meinzer, Allison Deck, Erin Safley and nephew, Matthew Safley.
Preceding Bill in death were his father, Roy, in 1987, sister, Laurie Keyser, in 2004, and his grandparents.
