WILLIAM “HUBBY” F. KLAASSEN
William “Bill” “Hubby” Fredrick Klaassen, the son of Andrew and Anna ((Hassebroek) Klaassen was born January 9, 1918 in George, Iowa. He received his education in country school near George. On September 7, 1938 he was united in marriage to Margaret June Kruger in Little Rock, Iowa. They resided in and around the Boyden area during their 65 years of marriage. Bill was employed as a cream hauler by the Boyden Creamery, was a custodian for the Boyden School and retired as a foreman for the Sioux County Roads Department. Bill and Margaret for 40 years were custodians for the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden and for close to fifty years were the caretakers of the Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden. Margaret preceded him in death on May 29, 2004 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Bill moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon and on September 7, 2010 moved to the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn. He passed away at Prairie View on Thursday, September 30, 2010 reaching the age of 92 years, 8 months and 21 days.
He was currently a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and was a former member of the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. He enjoyed playing cards especially Pinochle. Bill and Margaret enjoyed camping.
Bill is survived by six children, Burdell and his wife, Judith Klaassen of Sheldon, Iowa; Arlys and her husband, John Smid of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Myron and his wife, Karen Klaassen of Sanborn, Iowa; Sharon and her husband, Arlen Van Der Wilt of Boyden, Iowa; Mavis and her husband, Jude Gravenhof of Worthington, Minnesota; Rhonda and her husband, Ed Petitt of Boyden, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Donna Darell of Omaha, Nebraska; 23 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, Joel and Richard; 3 great grandchildren, his parents, one brother and three sisters.
