Paullina – Walter (Jack) Mau, 78, of Paullina passed away Thursday, July2, 2009, at Orange City Area Health System. A casual memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina
Jack was born September 18, 1930, in Denison, Iowa, the son of Walter and Evelyn (Perry) Mau. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Guam. He married Marian Hollister on June 22, 1952, at the Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, IA. Together, they lived in Wall Lake, Shenandoah, Early, and Storm Lake before moving to Paullina in 1957. They purchased and ran the Paullina Greenhouse from 1957-1970. Jack worked for the O’Brien County Conservation Board for 22 years, retiring in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marian; son Sam and Melissa of Michigan; son Tim and Anne of Granger, IA; daughter Laura of Des Moines, IA; niece Michelle and Craig of Tea, SD; nephew Mark and Erin of West Des Moines, IA; and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving him are his sister Loretta (Dean) Ericksen, sister Georgia Clinton, brother Mike (Robyn) Pedersen, and sister Caroline (John) Deason.
Jack was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, gardening, fishing, hunting, fishing, and simply enjoying time outside. He was a talented woodworker who spent many hours in his shop. Jack loved playing pool. All who knew him appreciated his sense of humor, his ready laugh, and his ability to tell a joke.
