VIRGIL DEAN VANDE BRAKE
Virgil Dean Vande Brake, the son of Russell Edward and Hermina (Rens) Vande Brake was born April 22, 1937 in Orange City, Iowa. He graduated from Orange City High School in 1954. After high school Virgil started working for his dad at Russell’s Ready Mix. On June 21, 1957, Virgil was united in marriage to Colleen Dee DeJongh in Hartley, Iowa. The couple made their home in Hartley for 6 years before moving to Sheldon, Iowa, where they lived for 45 years. Virgil owned and operated Russell’s Ready Mix for 35 years before retiring in 1990. Colleen preceded him in death on February 15, 2006 in Deer Park, Wisconsin. Virgil remained in his home in Sheldon. On September 21, 2007, he was united in marriage to Brenda Moret in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa and have made Sheldon their home for the past 3 years. Virgil passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at his residence in Sheldon, reaching the age of 73 years, 5 months and 28 days.
Virgil was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. He was an avid reader, loved fishing at the family cabin in northern Minnesota and enjoyed watching T.V.
Virgil leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Brenda Vande Brake of Sheldon; a son and his wife, Troy A. and Rachel L. Vande Brake of Clear Lake, South Dakota; his mother, Hermina Borgman of Orange City, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Jean Mieras of Sheldon, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Johnathan S. Vande Brake; Sheraea L. Vande Brake; Devon M. Vande Brake; Dannika J. Vande Brake; Kelly C. Vande Brake and Morgan V. Vande Brake; 3 step-sons and their spouses, Scott and Sheryl Moret of Phoenix, Arizona; Joe and Rhonda Moret of Orange City, Iowa; Cody and Jennifer Moret of Brookings, South Dakota; 14 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Norlyn and Sandy Vande Brake of Okoboji, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Twila and Ken Netten of Orange City, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Dee Vande Brake in February 2006; his father, Russell Edward Vande Brake and sons, Kel Dean and Scott R. Vande Brake.
