VIOLET “VI” REIMERS

Violet Gaudian Reimers, the daughter of Carl F. and Olga (Tesch) Gaudian, was born August 15, 1928 in Cherokee, Iowa. She attended school in Paullina, graduating from Paullina High School in 1946. On January 4, 1950, she was united in marriage to Duane Reimers at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. After their marriage, the couple lived on the family farm near Calumet, Iowa. They farmed and raised and showed shorthorn cattle in the early years, later raising and showing Registered Quarter Horses. Vi worked for a number of years for First National Bank in Calumet and Paullina retiring in 1993. She passed away at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, reaching the age of 80 years and 18 days.
She was baptized on September 2, 1928 and later confirmed on May 24, 1942 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, where she was a lifelong member. In past years, she had been a member and officer of the Town & Country Saddle Club and a member of the Northwest Iowa Quarter Horse Breeders Association. She was currently serving as treasurer for Ladies Aid at Zion Lutheran Church. She also assisted with quilting and Braille at Zion.
Vi was most comfortable in her home and loved quilting, cooking, and baking, She also loved spending time with all her family, her brothers, sister and especially her grandsons, cheering them on at many of their sporting events. She always made sure everyone that visited her had plenty to eat-all homemade, of course. She’d lure her grandsons and their friends over with a canister of cookies—and they were always willing participants. Quilting was another favorite pastime and she handmade quilts for her children and grandsons. Vi loved to help others, whether it was cooking for them or visiting them or helping them out in some other way.
Vi is survived by her son, Steve and his wife, Alice Reimers of DeMotte, Indiana; her daughter, Lori and her husband, Bob Giese of Paullina; two grandsons, Mitchell Giese and his wife, Greta of Rock Valley and Aaron Giese of Storm Lake; three step grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence and his wife, Jo Gaudian of Spencer and Duane and his wife, Esther Gaudian of Lake Park; a sister, Carol and her husband, Ivan Thompson of Paullina; a sister-in-law, Delores Gerstandt of Sanborn; a brother-in-law, Leonard Kuester of Calumet and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane on February 24, 2002; her parents, a sister-in-law, Carol Kuester and a brother-in-law, Herman Gerstandt.
