VIOLA “Vi” PUHRMANN
Viola “Vi” Puhrmann, the daughter of Ernest and Margaret (Potratz) Pauling, was born August 13, 1918 in Caledonia Township in O’Brien County, Iowa. She received her education at St. John Lutheran School in Germantown. On January 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold F. Puhrmann in Germantown. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm southwest of Paullina, where they farmed for many years. Her husband preceded her in death on July 13, 1988 at the family home near Paullina. Vi remained on the family farm and moved into Paullina in March of 1997. She moved to the Heartland Care Center in Marcus in October of 2002. She passed away at the care center on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, reaching the age of 88 years, 3 months and 29 days.
She was baptized on September 1, 1918 and later confirmed on March 20, 1932 and was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. She was also a member of the Silver and Gold of the church. Her children and grandchildren were an important part of her life with many special memories. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and patch work quilting.
Vi leaves to cherish her memory her four daughters, Kathleen Hickson of Salix, Iowa; Ronda and her husband, Steve Ebel, Rita and her husband, Brad Harms and Barb and her husband, Dean Rice all of Paullina, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Brenda, Shane, Holli, Jarrod, Jennifer, Justin, Angela, Anthony, Bret and Jeremy; five great-grandchildren, Eli Dykstra, Kiersten and Kyan Kruse, Garrett Hickson and Dakota DeBruin; a brother and his wife, Martin and Rosella Pauling of Brandon, South Dakota; two sisters, Ruth and her husband, Dale Theobald of Lincoln, Nebraska and Leona Smith of Centennial, Colorado; also other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son-in-law, Lloyd Hickson; her parents and an infant sister, Margaret.
