VERNON H. HEITRITTER
Vernon Henry Herman Heitritter, the son of William and Meta (Stegeman) Heitritter was born September 2, 1922 on the family farm near Boyden, Iowa. He received his education at St. John Lutheran School graduating from the 8th grade in 1936. He then began farming with his dad. During World War II, he was called into the Army serving from June 1942 to December 1946 as a gunner. After his return from the service, he was united in marriage to Aletha Winter on February 7, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Boyden. After their marriage the couple farmed the family farm until retiring in 1989 and moving into Boyden. His wife preceded him in death in April of 1994. On May 2, 1998, he was united in marriage to Katie Fallon and after their marriage the couple made their home in Boyden. Vernon passed away on Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Sanford Sheldon Health Center, reaching the age of 85 years, 4 months and 5 days.
He was a lifelong member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Boyden, where he remained a faithful member and had served on the church council. He also served on the Sheldon Co-op Board. Farming was an important part of his life, by the love and care of the land his family had owned for over a century.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Katie of Boyden; his five children, Doris and Stan Kruse of Ellsworth, MN; Roy and Ruth (DeBoer) Heitritter of Sheldon; Glen and Linda (Swenson) Heitritter of Omaha, Nebraska; Wayne and Cheryl (Gaudian) Heitritter of Boyden and Lois and Irvic Frantz of Frisco, Texas; also 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 6 step-children, 19 step-grandchildren, 29 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale and his wife, Marlene Heitritter of Sanborn; a sister, Kathryn Roberts of Chadron, Nebraska; two brother-in-laws, Kenneth Winter of Sioux City and Lloyd and his wife, Arlis Winter of Boyden; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Aletha, his parents and two brothers and one sister.
