VERNON H. FINTEL
Vernon H. Fintel, the son of Arthur and Alvina (Mertens) Fintel, was born February 13, 1933 on the family farm near Paullina, Iowa. He received his education at Zion Lutheran School and later graduated from Paullina High School in 1950. He joined the Navy serving in Norfolk, Virginia. On May 31, 1953, he was united in marriage to Joyce Kreibaum in Norfolk, Virginia. After his discharge in 1954, the couple returned to Paullina where for one year he was employed at Glen’s Grocery Store. After that year, he then began farming west of Paullina and the couple farmed for many years until his retirement. He also sold seed corn for Wilson Seed; now know as Midwest Seed, which he was still involved with. He passed away at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar on Saturday, January 12, 2008, reaching the age of 74 years, 10 months and 29 days.
He was baptized on March 12, 1933 and later confirmed on June 9, 1946 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, where he was a life-long member of the church. He was also a member of the Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, having coffee and visiting with his many friends.
Vernon leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Joyce of Paullina; three sons and their wives, Douglas and Elena Fintel of Wheeling, West Virginia; Dan and Cynthia Fintel of Brighton, Iowa and David and Darla Fintel of Paullina; nine grandchildren, Kyle, David, Bryce, Joshua, Peter, Ellen, Emma, Jeremy and Jon; also two great-grandchildren, Zeke and Zoeie; and one brother and his wife, Marvin and Alice Fintel of Paullina; a sister-in-law, Irma Fintel of Paullina; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wilbert.
