VERLON “PETE” TESCH
Verlon “Pete” Tesch, the son of Ira and Alma (Hurtig) Tesch, was born September 17, 1938 on a farm south of Germantown in Cherokee County, Iowa. He received his education in a Marcus Township Country School until the 3rd grade and went on to attend school in Paullina and graduating from Paullina High School in 1957. On May 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to Darlene Eldredge at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa and to this union three children were born. After their marriage he worked at Lundell Manufacturing and at the Wilson Packing Plant in Cherokee, before he started farming with his dad in the Paullina area. He farmed in the Paullina area until ill health forced his early retirement. The couple moved into Paullina in 1987. He passed away at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Tuesday, January 16, 2007, reaching the age of 68 years, 3 months and 29 days.
He was baptized on December 4, 1938 at his parents home and later confirmed at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Calumet on April 11, 1954 and was currently a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He enjoyed farming, the game of golf when he couldn’t farm any more and he enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, going to their many sporting events.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife, Darlene of Paullina; two sons, Michael Tesch of Primghar and Kevin and his wife, Lori Tesch of Paullina; a daughter, Lyngale and her husband, Todd Egdorf of Paullina; an AFS son, Karl Kastner and his family of Austria; ten grandchildren, Chelsea and Katie Tesch; Quentin, LaShara, Tiana and Cordell Tesch and Clark, Cody, Carrie and Crystal Egdorf; four sisters, Iris Hunnel; Jean and her husband, Dick Edwards; Marney and her husband, Bill Click and Karen Cooper all of Paullina; a brother-in-law, Merle Kuehl of Paullina; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Gerda Kuehl; three brothers-in-law, Jim Koch, Jack Cooper and Jack Hunnel.
God’s finger touched him
and he slipped away
From earth’s dark shadows
to a brighter day;
God saw the road was getting rough.
The hills were hard to climb;
He gently closed his weary eyes.
And whispered, “Peace be thine.”
To a beautiful garden this friend has gone.
To a land of perfect rest.
Though he is gone he still lives on
In the garden of memory.
