VERA E. DAU
Vera Emma Kate Dau, the daughter of Albert C. and Metha (Brinckmann) Meyer was born April 27, 1919 in Baker Township of O’Brien County, Iowa. She received her education in a country school in O’Brien County. On June 4, 1939, she was united in marriage to Delbert H. Dau in Paullina, Iowa. June 5, 1939, the couple moved to a farm south of Sutherland, Iowa in Liberty Township, where they farmed for fifty one years. The couple retired in 1982 from active farming and they remained on the family farm. Her husband preceded her in death on January 14, 1991 in Cherokee, Iowa. She remained on the family farm until moving to the Sutherland Care Center in May of 1999. She passed away at the care center on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, reaching the age of 88 years, 11 months and 18 days.
She was baptized and later confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina and was currently a long time member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet, where she had taught Sunday school for several years. She was also a member of the Neighborhood Club for many years. Vera enjoyed gardening, yard work, fishing, playing cards, dancing and family gatherings.
Vera leaves to cherish her memory four sons and their wives, Delmer and Sandra Dau of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Roger and Carolyn Dau of LeMars, Iowa; Daniel and Faline Dau and Lloyd and Janice Dau all of Calumet, Iowa; a daughter, Barbara Dau of Arthur, Iowa; also twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Clarence and Herbert; and two sisters, Mabel Dau and Rosetta Riedemann.
