THOMAS M. McCARTY
Thomas Michael McCarthy, the fifth of ten children of Vetus Cletus (V.C.) and Agnes (Cajacob) McCarty was born May 22, 1928 in Sheldon, Iowa. He received his education in Sheldon schools. He entered the U.S. Navy on December 19, 1945 serving until his discharge on November 13, 1947, returning to Sheldon where he farmed for 10 years. Leaving farming to enter the business world, he sold insurance and worked in Boone, Sioux City and Cherokee. Tom was married to Theresa Pape for 28 years and later married to Doris Fiebig for six years. He was the proprietor of sewing machine businesses in Harlan, Ames and Marshalltown. In his retirement years he enjoyed walks and bird watching. Tom entered the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa in May of 2004 and had been a resident until his passing at the Veterans Home on Saturday December 27, 2008 reaching the age of 80 years 7 months and 5 days.
He is survived by his ten children; Teresita McCarty of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Stephan McCarty of Austin, Texas; Michele McCarty of Winterset, Iowa; Kevin McCarty of Livermore, California; Patricia McCarty of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ursula McCarty of Newell, Iowa; Paula Petersen of Papillion, Nebraska; Jacinta McCarty of Story City, Iowa; Colin McCarty of London, United Kingdom and Megan McCarty of Waltham, Massachusetts also 16 grandchildren and his siblings Robert (Bob) McCarty of Sheldon; William (Bill) McCarty of Sheldon; Rita (Jean) of; Patricia of; and Margaret (Peggy) of also nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Francis (Frank), John David (Dave) and Charles (Chuck) and a younger sister Elizabeth (Betty) Youngers.
