STEVEN N. HINZ

Steven Neil Hinz, the son of Harry and Hazel (Strampe) Hinz was born February 17, 1946 in Primghar, Iowa. He received his education in Paullina and graduated from Paullina High School in 1964. He went on to further his education in Omaha, Nebraska. Steven enlisted in the United States Army Reserve where he served from May 31, 1966 until being discharged on January 30, 1972. He made his home in Paullina and worked as a mechanic for the John Deere dealership for a total of 46 years before his retirement in March of 2011. On June 7, 1986, he was united in marriage to Patricia Baskerville at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. In his retirement years he was known to raise a large garden and share his produce with many people. Steven passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar reaching the age of 68 years, 4 months and 5 days.
He was baptized on March 10, 1946 and later confirmed on April 10, 1960 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. He was currently a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, the Russell West Post of the American Legion where he served as treasurer for many years. Steve enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren, his vegetable garden and fishing.
Steven leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Pat of Paullina; three step children, Dr. Steven (Sandy) Baskerville of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Tim Baskerville of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Gina Johnson and Tracy Johnson of Osceola, Iowa; grandchildren, Ashley (Grant) Henry, Zach Johnson and fianc, Nicole, Lucas (Laura) Booher, Stephanie, Sam and Sawyer Baskerville; a brother, Dudley and his wife, Nancy Hinz of Paullina; a nephew, Dean and a niece, Dawn and their families, also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Spenser Baskerville; his parents, Harry and Hazel Hinz.
