Shirley Ida De Goei was born November 16, 1936 in Orange City, the daughter of Peter and Ida (Roghair) Goslinga. She was raised in Orange City, where she attended the public schools. Shirley was extremely close to her Mother and Sister as they all shared the love of baking.

On November 16, 1956 she married Gilbert De Goei and moved to a farm outside Sheldon.

She loved her family fiercely, most days, especially her devoted husband Gil. Together they created so many wonderful memories and lived a life worth talking about-from working the farm, some of the best friends, to having their two wonderful children Scott and Gail and watching them grow into successful adults, and even the trials they faced…they were always together and put their family first. Moving to town Shirley worked at various stores, but ended at the nursing home serving food with her best friend Nelly. While it was an early day and she preferred to sleep in, she had compassion and patience for the residents she worked with. During these years Gil was trucking and when he was home she was busy getting him ready for his next round, doting on him and “checking on him in his bedroom“😉. They had a very playful and fun relationship, one that was admirable…especially by their family. Shirley loved to be around her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, they all meant so much to her and she was willing to do anything for them, she loved to bake or come over for visits to help out as needed. She also loved to fish and yearly vacations to Minnesota with Kris and her family so she could boat and be with ‘the girls’, memories that they all cherish beyond measure. Shirley took her last breath next to the love of her life Gil on January 1, 2025.

Shirley is survived by her husband Gilbert, her son Scott De Goei of Sheldon, her daughter Gail (Robert) Vander Hamm of Ireton, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren Kristy (Jon) Brandenburg, Kyleah & Harper, Teri Vander Hamm, Brian (Kara) Vander Hamm, Karlee, Logan & Jacob, Heather (Matt) Waldschmitt, Ellie & Everett, Rachel (Nick) Tanner, Tayten, Mauer, Audrey Shirley, and Allen De Goei. Gil’s siblings Dale (Mary) De Goei, Alice Faye Vander Stope and Dee (Bob)Van Driel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Esther Granstra, Daughter in Law Denice De Goei, and several special friends.
