Sharon “Sherry” Vander Pol, the daughter of William “Bill” Jacob and Marie Ethyln (Hemenway) Stapf, was born July 24, 1938 in Castle Rock, Minnesota She grew up all over the United States, she attended 29 different schools in 12 years. She loved making new friends and kept them forever. Sherry was united in marriage to Albert “Junior” Peterson, on June 26, 1956 in Sheldon, Iowa. Sherry ran the Busy Bee Craft Store for 17 years. Junior preceded her in death on December 13, 1990. Upon his death Sherry witnessed all of the care that was extended to Junior, that she felt her calling was to be a CNA. She worked 16 years at the Sheldon Nursing Home. Sherry then married Jerry Vander Pol, they went on a lot of fun trips, enjoyed storm watching and bird watching. Sherry got her 1st driver’s license at the age of 70, to be able to go see her dying daughter, Pam and to be able to drive her husband around when he was diagnosed with dementia. At that point Sherry retired to be able to help her husband and her parents. Jerry passed April 17, 2010. Sherry continued caring for many special friends. She had also worked at Holiday Inn, a “putter outer” for the Treasure Chest, Dabbled in Art (craft classes) and at the museum. Sherry enjoyed life, loved her family, loved people, loved Elvis, her penguins (all 4,000), music, caring for others (always Busy as a Bee), she sent cards to everyone for everything. Sherry moved into Prairie View (Villa) Memory Care. Again, Sherry adapted and enjoyed the new friends. We are very thankful to all the Nurses at Prairie View, they were amazing.
Sherry is survived by her children, Robert (Valerie) Peterson of Sheldon; Rebecca (Nips) Vander Plaats of Sheldon; Jason (Megan) Peterson of Lincoln, Nebraska; step-children, Brenda (Bryan) Godbersen of Rock Valley; Janet (Kirk) Rozeboom of Hartley and Brad (Janice) Vander Pol of Sheldon; 15 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 15 step great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Rich Postma of Sheldon and other relatives and friends.
Sherry was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Junior Peterson; a daughter, Pam Schwebach and her husband, Bernie; 2nd husband, Jerry Vander Pol; her parents, Bill and Marie Stapf; her sisters, Marlene Postma and Marlys Sachen and her husband Jack. Her dear friend Clarence Dykstra. Special friend Wilfred “Wow” Kooiker – they had so much fun spending time together during the Pandemic, they totally supported each other.
Sherry also was blessed with the amazing sisters both Jerry’s and Julie’s and of course Ivan. They took her under their wing and didn’t let go.
