Ronald “Ron” Reuben Uhrich, age 84, of Hartley, Iowa and formerly of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa.  His Graveside Service will 2:00 P.M. Thursday September 12, 2024 at the Calvary Cemetery in Sutherland, Iowa.

Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Ronald Reuben Uhrich

Ronald Reuben Uhrich the son of Reuben Uhrich and Helen (Pohlenz) Perkins was born January 26, 1940 in Alliance, Nebraska then later moved to Beatrice NE. He attended Beatrice High School. He joined the Navy as Seaman and served on the U.S.S. Norton Sound. Ron loved to travel and ride his motorcycle. Several times he rode across the country.  Ron enjoyed SCUBA diving while living in California.

On June 25, 1983, he was united in marriage to Mary “Kathy” Kummerfeld at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon.

He was a jack of all trades when it came to employment. He worked maintenance, refrigeration, machines, and many other mechanical jobs. He loved to build and fix things. He loved to work on his house, in his yard, on his motorcycle, took time with his dogs and cats, and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. For many years, Ron and Kathy would eat breakfast at Cook’s Restaurant in Sheldon. 

Ron is Preceded in death by wife Kathy, mother Helen Perkins, father Reuben Uhrich, sister Shirley Davis, half-brother Joseph Uhrich, brother-in-law Kenny Kummerfeld, nephews Joshua Ubben, Chris Kummerfeld.

He will be lovingly remembered by his half-brother’s Loren (Sherry) Ubben of Lincoln, Nebraska; Greg (Diane) Ubben of Omaha, Nebraska; Brian (Joyce) Ubben of Ceresco, and Paul Uhrich, California.  

Ron is also survived by: his 3 sons Troy Uhrich, Marty Uhrich and Jeremy Uhrich, all in California; Sister-in-law, Karolyn (Larry) Freking of LeMars, Iowa; 2 brothers-in-law, Richard (Gail) Kummerfeld of Rockwell City, Iowa and Charles (Lila) Kummerfeld of Sutherland, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
