ROBERT W. KREYKES
Robert Wayne Kreykes, the son of James and Lois (Matthews) Kreykes, was born March 13, 1928 in Sanborn, Iowa. He attended school in Sanborn and Sheldon graduating from Sheldon High School in 1946, he furthered his education by attending trade school for air conditioning and construction. On January 24, 1949 he was united in marriage to Darlene Petrich at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. After their marriage the couple lived in Sheldon and Bob worked for Giegers Hardware for a few years. They then moved to Los Angeles, California where Bob worked for ACCO Air Conditioning for 35 years. He retired in 1988 and they moved back to Sheldon to spend their retirement years. In May of 2009, they moved into the Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon. He passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2009, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 81 years, 6 months and 21 days.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon and the Sheldon Eagle’s Club. He loved fishing at his lake home in Arnolds Park and golfing with his brother. While living in Los Angeles, he was active with the PTA, the Boy Scouts; serving as a Scout Master and was an avid bowler.
Bob leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Darlene; and their three children, Rick Kreykes of Alta Loma, California; Janie Grosser and her husband, Greg of Olathe, Kansas; Randy Kreykes and his wife, Ute of Palmdale, California; six grandchildren, Krista, Travis, Michael, Tyler, Sean and Melissa; five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Cameron, Cole, Caleb and Luke; a sister, Sandra Gadberry of Sheldon; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Norman and Eugene; and a sister, Eleanor.
