ROBERT W. ABEL
Robert William Abel, the son of Lester and Hilda (Rath) Abel was born February 27, 1926 in Sheldon, Iowa. He attended Sheldon schools and graduated from Sheldon High School with the class of 1943. On May 13, 1944 he entered the Army serving during W.W. II and being discharged on April 28, 1946. After the service he attended college at the University of Iowa and later at California State at Fullerton receiving a degree in Library science. He retuned to Sheldon to make his home with his parents and to care for them until their passing. His father, Les, passed away on February 29, 1980 and his mother, Hilda, passed away on June 18, 1982. After their passing, he remained in the family home until moving to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center ~ Senior Care in March of 2006. He passed away at the senior care on Sunday, August 19, 2007 reaching the age of 81 years, 5 months and 4 days.
He enjoyed reading and listening to classical music.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Mariana and her husband, Joseph Grazaitis of Huntington Beach, California; also nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two half-sisters Elaine Rayburn and Elynor Schendel.
