ROBERT P. LING
Robert Phillip Ling, the son of Maurice E. and Sarah Kathryn “Kate” (Lamkin) Ling, was born October 16, 1913 in Sheldon, IA. He graduated from Sheldon High School in 1931 and also attended Junior College in Sheldon, IA. On November 27, 1935, he was united in marriage to Fern A. De Jong in Sheldon, IA. After their marriage they farmed north of Sheldon and retiring into Sheldon in 1990. Fern preceded him in death on December 4, 1996 in Sanborn, IA. In 2002, he made his home in the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. He was a Championship Bowler in the 40’s. He loved to fly and owned numerous planes. He also loved fishing especially ice fishing. Bob was still driving and would go out to the farm to check things out and to see all of the new road progress and developments around the area. In November, he developed pneumonia and was hospitalized the whole month, after which he became a resident of the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, IA. He passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Prairie View, reaching the age of 92 years, 2 months and 19 days.
Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son and his wife, Ron and Marcella Ling of Sheldon, IA; four grandchildren and their spouses, Marlyn and Susan Ling of West Des Moines, IA; Michele and Bret Boyer of Cedar Rapids, IA; Alan and Sarah Ling of North English, IA; Pamela and Shawn Still of Sheldon, IA; ten great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Helen and France Wanberg of Galva, IA; three sisters-in-law, Sue Ling of Windom, MN; Viola De Jong of Sheldon, IA and Virginia Ling of Lexington, IL; his special friend, Frances Bruggom of Sheldon, IA; many nieces, nephews and a host other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Fern; by a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Kenyon Kimmel; and two brothers, Paul and Fritz Ling.
