Robert E. McCauley
Robert “Bob” Edwin McCauley, the son of Robert Thomas and Iva Pearl (Henderson) McCauley was born February 7, 1918 on a farm southwest of Paullina, Iowa. He moved to Primghar at the age of seven and received his education graduating from Primghar High School in 1936. After graduation he joined the U.S. Postal Service on Sept. 1, 1936. He was called into the Army on April 2, 1941 serving as a Master Sgt. in Australia and New Guinea. He was discharged on January 1, 1946 and returned to Primghar to resume his job with the Postal Service. On August 1, 1948 he was united in marriage to Loraine Steuck at the St. John Lutheran Church in Sanborn. The couple has made their home in Primghar all their married life. Bob worked 20 years as a clerk in the Post Office and 20 years as a rural route carrier, having a route of 100 miles with 195 boxes. He retired from the Post Office in 1977 and began working at Fine Homes before his retirement and continued working until breaking his hip. He entered the Primghar Care Center in April of 2005. He passed away at the care center on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 reaching the age of 91 years, 6 months and 11 days.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar and served on the church council. He was the church Treasurer since 1985. He was also a member of the Chateau-Thierry Post of the American Legion of Primghar. He enjoyed woodworking and his many years at Fine Homes. Bob always enjoyed the visits and the coffee pot was always on.
Bob leaves to cherish his memory his wife Loraine of Primghar; three children Mary and her husband Dick Garrod of Casper, Wyoming; Bob McCauley of Primghar; and Peg and her husband Dan Uthe of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six grandchildren Mandy Garrod; Sarah and her husband Nick Zitterich; Megan and Bobby McCauley and Carly and Ky Uthe, a brother-in-law Robert Throckmorton of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Virginia Throckmorton.
