RANDY L. DURST
Randy Lee Durst, the son of Derrel and Ruth (Clark) Durst was born October 1, 1946 in Primghar, Iowa. He grew up and attended elementary school in Gaza, Iowa. In 1958 the family moved to a farm outside of Paullina, Iowa. Randy played football and graduated from Paullina High School in 1964. He went on to attend Northwestern College in Orange City. He enlisted in the Army and served in the Army Reserves until his discharge. On August 3, 1968, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Van Klompenburg in Ripon, California. The couple settled on a farm east of Paullina near the Mapleside Community where he farmed for many years. Recently he retired and moved into Paullina. He passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at his home in Paullina reaching the age of 67 years, 3 months and 9 days.
Randy was a member of the American Reformed Church in Primghar, where he had served on the Consistory. He was a member of the Paullina Lions Club, Gaza Co-op Board and the Christian Motorcyclists Association in Sheldon. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, motorcycling and having coffee with his friends.
Randy leaves to cherish his memory his four children, Brent and wife, Leigh Durst of Santa Cruz, California; Kristen Durst and husband, Brian Olson, and Eric Durst all of Madison, Wisconsin and Leah Durst-Lee and husband, Abe Lee of Chicago, Illinois; his four grandchildren, Michelle and Joshua Durst of Santa Cruz and Zachary and Eric DeGroot of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a brother, Ronald and his wife, Diane Durst of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and a sister, Lynette and her husband, Roger Meis of Grand Island, Nebraska; also nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
