PHYLLIS A. MERRY
Phyllis Ann Merry, the daughter of Alfred and Ethel (Longbottom) Chambers was born June 23, 1931 in Primghar, Iowa. She attended Primghar schools and graduated from Primghar High School in 1949. She went on to further her education and received a Associate of Arts degree from Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri. On July 14, 1951, she was united in marriage to Thomas Merry at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Tom was serving in the Navy and the couple made their first home in California where their two girls Rebecca and Kathi were born. In 1956 the couple moved to Neosho, Missouri where their two boys Tom W. and Mike were born. The couple returned to California in 1968, and subsequently lived in Pickerington, Ohio, and Yukon, Oklahoma before retiring in 1986. During these years, Phyllis’ employment included working in a nursing home and allergy clinic. The couple returned to their hometown of Primghar to enjoy their retirement years. In all the places that the family lived Phyllis enjoyed being a homemaker, raising her children and caring for her homes. For the last couple of years Phyllis has made her home at the Primghar Care Center. She passed away on Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City reaching the age of 76 years 11 months and 23 days.
She was a member of the United Church of Primghar and enjoyed quilting, cooking (especially baking), and fishing.
Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory her husband of almost 57 years, Tom of Primghar; four children, Rebecca and her husband, Brandon Arterbury of Prescott, Arizona; Kathi and her husband, David Egan of El Reno, Oklahoma; Tom W. Merry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Mike and his wife, Tina Merry of Yukon, Oklahoma; also seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Chambers of Primghar; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wayne.
The family wishes to thank the Primghar Care Center’s staff and residents for making Phyllis’ stay homelike and for their loving care and concern for the last two years.
Blessed be her memory.
