PHILIP J. VAN GORP
Philip James Van Gorp, the son of James E. and Rocina (De Boer) Van Gorp was born September 9, 1924, on a farm south of Hull, Iowa, where he received his education. On March 29, 1946, he was united in marriage to Joan Van Roekel in the parsonage of the First Reformed Church in Boyden, Iowa. The couple lived in the Boyden area almost 60 years. Philip owned and operated the Boyden Truck Service for 26 years, hauling grain and livestock. He also worked for Farmers Feed in Boyden, Smit and Sons, Farmers Co-op Lumber and mowed for Sioux County in his retirement years. They moved into the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, Iowa in November of 2005. Philip and Joan celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on March 29, 2006. Philip passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center - Senior Care in Sheldon, reaching the age of 81 years, 9 months and 1 day.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden and had served on the Board of Trustees for many years. He enjoyed farming, fishing, woodworking, camping and gardening. Phil and Joan enjoyed spending their winters in Texas for 15 years and Mesa, Arizona for 13 years.

When I Come Home To Heaven
When I come home to heaven
How joyful will it be!
For on that day
At last my risen Lord I’ll see.
No Greater happiness
Than to see Him face to face,
To see the love in His eyes
And feel His warm embrace.
I’ve done nothing to deserve
The perfect home above.
It was given freely
Through the grace of Jesus’ love.
Then why should earthly cares
Weigh down upon me so?
They’ll be a distant memory
When home at last I go.
