PEGGY J. BLAKE
Peggy Jane Blake, the daughter of Oliver H. and Maggie (Harris) Edgen was born on August 15, 1930 near Pleasant View, TN. She spent her youth and attended school in Pleasant View and graduated from high school there. After high school Peggy worked for a bank in Nashville, TN where she met Jerome. On August 9, 1955, she was united in marriage to Gerald (Jerome/Jerry) Vincent Sauer in Pleasant View, TN. After their marriage the couple made their home in Sheldon, IA and they were the parents of 5 children before Jerry was killed in a car accident on November 13, 1964 near Ashton, IA. She later married, Russell J. Blake on August 20, 1969, who had 2 daughters and she loved them as her own. The couple made their home in Sheldon. Russell passed away on March 17, 1999 in Sheldon. Peggy remained in her home until moving into Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon in the spring of 2008. Peggy passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, IA, reaching the age of 80 years, 2 months and 7 days.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon the Ladies Guild and of churches Missionary Association; she was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. She loved doing fancy knitting and crocheting, reading mystery books and volunteer work.
Peggy leaves to cherish her memory her 5 children and their spouses, Jeff and Mary Lynn Sauer of Medina, MN; Byron and Allicia Sauer of Albuquerque, NM; Nadene and Greg Morning of Austin, TX; Anita and Larry Gray of Farmington, MO; Mike and Marilyn Sauer of Prior Lake, MN; 2 step-daughters, Sharon and Bill Michailidis of Sioux Falls, SD; Pam and Grant Mears of Sioux City, IA; 13 grandchildren, Chantel (Chris) Merkel; Monica (Corey) Visschar; Paul (Christy) Michailidis; Eleni (Greg) Gajewski; Mandy (J.) Farrell; Eric Griggs; Chris Sauer; Tanya (Rich) Hall; Matthew Mears, Justin Mears; Caroline Sauer; Jeffrey Sauer and Margaret Skoglund; 8 great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband’s, Jerry Sauer in 1964 and Russell Blake in 1999; a son-in-law, Mark Griggs; a grandson, Ryan Sauer; her parents, and a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and John Head.
