PAUL W. MERLEY
Paul Wayne Merley, the son of John Rockford and Mildred (De Graaf) Merley, was born July 5, 1942 in Orange City, Iowa. He received his education in a country school near Archer and from the Archer Consolidated Community School. On December 13, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sharon Kaye Cabalka in Hartley, Iowa. Paul worked for many years for Bob Merley Jr. Excavation; he also drove truck for Russell Ready Mix. Paul passed away on Friday, January 12, 2007, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 64 years, 6 months and 7 days.
He was a past member of the First Reformed Church in Archer. He enjoyed being around heavy equipment and he especially enjoyed his tour of the Caterpillar Manufacturing Plant.
Paul leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 35 years, Sharon Merley of Sheldon; a son Neil Merley of Sheldon, Iowa; two daughters, Paula and her husband, Thad Schoneman of Ashton, Iowa and Melissa Woelber of Sanborn, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Stacia and Issac Merley; John Merley, Brianna and Shelby Vogelaar; Paul, Seth and Devin Woelber and a step-grandson, Matthew Schoneman; three step-children, Cora, Tina and Billy Merrit; his mother, Mildred “Millie” Merley of Sheldon, Iowa; a brother, Don and his wife Barb Merley and a sister, Vicki Merley all of Sheldon, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Rockford Merley and a brother, Billy Dean Merley.
