PATRICK K. MARTIN

Kelly Martin, the son of Patrick and Dorothy (Warren) Martin was born April 2, 1955 in Cherokee, Iowa. He attended school in Belmond, Iowa for five years, Urbandale, Iowa for one year and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1973. He stayed in the Sutherland area and worked as a carpenter, welder, and a millwright. Moving to Garden City, Kansas in 1983, he worked in meat processing. Kelly then moved to California, worked as a surveyor for five years before returning to Sutherland in 1992. Since returning, he was employed as a tradesman on different aspects of construction and also delighted in gardening and transporting fruits and vegetables as a “truck gardener.” He passed away at the Grinnell Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa on Friday, April 25, 2008, reaching the age of 53 years and 23 days.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed all plants, animals, outdoor activities, and golfing. Kelly also shared many hours with his friends and family playing any and all card games and marathon board games. Football and cooking were also among his favorites.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Dorothy Martin of Sutherland; three brothers and their wives: Gene and Patti Martin of Incline Village, Nevada, Jeffrey and Cherry Martin of Bakersfield, California and Russ and Caroline Martin of Menifee, California; four aunts and four uncles: Laura and Bill Wolter of Sun City, California; Paul Martin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Burt and Carolyn Martin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Betty and Paul Winter of Buffalo Center, Iowa and Jo Warren of Sutherland, Iowa; nieces: Kalei and Bonnie, nephews: Bryce, Justin, David, Alex, Austin; two lifelong friends, Brad Giese and Lonnie Boardman; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, uncles and aunts: Gordon Warren, Dan Martin, Bill Rahbusch, Mary Lou and Merritt Henderson, Nell and Norman Meyer.
