OSCAR H. BAERENWALD
Oscar Henry Baerenwald, the son August and Amtilda (Miller) Baerenwald, was born March 25, 1913 on the family farm near Matlock, Iowa. He graduated from Boyden High School in 1933. After high school Oscar worked as a hired farm hand for a while, until he bought his gravel trucks. He then hauled gravel and operated a gravel crushing machine. With a partner he purchased a sand pit and gravel washing business. He was united in marriage to Wava M. Davison on March 12, 1935 in Elk Point, South Dakota. In the off season for 48 years, Oscar would sheer sheep. He retired from hauling gravel in 1991 after 57 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wava on March 6, 1989. Oscar passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2006, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center – Senior Care of Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 93 years, 4 months and 11 days.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Sheldon and served on the church council. He enjoyed flying, riding motorcycle, fishing, hunting pheasant and water fowl.
Oscar leaves to cherish his memory his children, Arlen and his wife, Judy Baerenwald of Algona, Iowa; Lowell and his wife, Jane Baerenwald of Eagan, Minnesota; Lana Baerenwald of Eagan, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Chris and Tracey; Brent and Nancy; and Carlynn; Ryan and Paula; Reid and Ally; and Amelia; 5 great-grandchildren, Katie, Lindsay, Nathan, Macey and Natalia; a sister-in-law, Elsie Baerenwald of Jasper, Minnesota; and a special friend, Nettie Urban of Sheldon; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wava; his parents; four sisters, Henrietta Baerenwald, Alma Wright, Rose Strand, Dora Roskam; and eight brothers, William, Leo, Fred, August, Ernest, George, Paul and Martin.
