NORMA M. MERRY
Norma Mae Merry, the daughter of Gus and Louisa (Gotsch) Nothdorf was born February 4, 1910 in Davenport, Iowa. She grew up in Carroll, Iowa and later Auburn, Iowa where she received her education. In 1924 she moved to the Primghar area with her family. On March 19, 1940 she was united in marriage to Harold Merry in Rock Rapids, Iowa. The couple made their home near Primghar where they farmed for many years. Her husband preceded her in death on May 20, 1980 in Primghar. Norma remained on the family farm until moving to the Primghar Care Center in February of 2008. She passed away at the care center on Friday January 2, 2009 reaching the age of 98 years 10 months and 28 days.
She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Calumet, Iowa in 1936. She was currently a member of the United Church of Primghar. She enjoyed her garden and spending time with her family.
Norma is survived by her daughter Donna and her husband Denny Waterman of Elk Point, S.D. and one son Dennis Merry of Primghar; four grandchildren, Tammy and her husband Stan Carlson; Shelly Whitead, Scott Waterman; and Kim and her husband Merritte Whitead; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua, David, Stacey, Kallie, Ashley, Anthony and Aaron; twelve great-great- grandchildren Eric, Keegan, Kylie, Kendra, Kaleb, Keenan, Kamren, Ty, Micah, Jarrett, Christopher and Ana with Devante and Addisen expected in March; also numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother Chester, one sister Lillian and two great-grandchildren Trinity and Nickie.
