NORMA J. SCHIMMER
Norma Jean (Fonley) Schimmer was born in Linn Grove, Iowa on October 28, 1934. She attended school at Highview Consolidated School and graduated from there in 1952. Norma attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa receiving a teacher’s degree. She taught school in Linn Grove, Royal, Gaza and Sutherland. On August 12, 1956, she was united in marriage to Dale Schimmer. They made their home in Sutherland and later in Hartley, where Dale was the owner of Hartley Plumbing and Heating for 38 years. Norma was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa. She taught Sunday School, was a choir member and held many offices. After retiring, Norma and Dale moved to Spirit Lake, where she was a member of First Lutheran Church. After Dale’s passing, she moved to Primghar and was a member of the American Reformed Church. Norma loved to sew, bake and care for her grandchildren. Norma passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn reaching the age of 76 years, 3 months and 1 day.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Brian and wife, Jan Schimmer of Primghar, Iowa; Brad and wife, Tiffany Schimmer of Sanborn, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Sarah and husband, Eric Hietbrink of Sioux City; Megan and husband, Shane Greve of North Liberty; Allison, Madison, Nyles, Ashton, Dawson and Ashlyn; a great grandson, Braedon; four brothers and one sister, Duane and wife, Miriam Fonley of Spencer, IA; Frances Hill of Cottonwood, MN; Doyle and wife, Marilyn Fonley of Gulf Shores, AL; Dayle and wife, Genny Fonley of Nashua, Iowa; and Donnie and wife, Dee Fonley of Ocala, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Marilyn Schimmer of Sutherland, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents Herman and Marie Fonley; and one sister, Darlene Ponsor.
