NELVINA M. STERK
Nelvina Maye (Boone) Sterk the daughter of Gerrit and Phoebe (Veenstra) Boone, was born May 28, 1930 in Sanborn, Iowa. She was the youngest of six siblings and attended the Sanborn Schools. After graduating she taught country school for two years. On June 14, 1950 Nelvina was married to Marion Sterk at the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. The couple made their home in Sanborn, Iowa, Edgerton, Minnesota, Hartley, Iowa and in 1964 Sheldon, Iowa.
While in Sheldon, Nelvina worked for AEA4 and as secretary for the Sheldon Community Schools. Nelvina was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon where she was active in many women’s activities. She was also a member of the Merry Go Round Club. She volunteered at many local organizations, the Village Treasure Chest, Hospital Auxiliary and Sanford Senior Care. She enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, having coffee with friends, music, walking and reading.
In June of 2017, Nelvina and Marion moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon. Then in August of 2019, she became a resident of Sanford Senior Care where she passed away on Tuesday October 1, 2019 reaching the age of 89 years, four months and three days.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years Marion Sterk of Sheldon, Iowa; three children; son Terry and his wife Brenda Sterk of Manning, Iowa; daughter Nadine and her husband Gary De Hoogh of Sheldon, Iowa; daughter Sharon and her husband Tim Hejlik of Garner, Iowa; son-in-law Kerwin and his wife Kathy Sterler of Sheldon, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Nelvina was preceded in death by a daughter Donna Sterler on February 2, 2008; a great granddaughter Vanessa; four brothers Raymond, Ed, Chuck, Tony; two sisters, Rose Gorsett and Betty Van Holland.
