NELVINA C. DIEKEVERS
Nelvina “Nel” Catherine Diekevers, the daughter of George and Maude (Jansma) Reimers was born August 17, 1922, on a farm near Boyden, Iowa. She received her education in Boyden, graduating from Boyden High School and the Sioux City Beauty Academy. On November 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Adrian “Rusty” Diekevers in Boyden, Iowa. After their marriage the young couple lived in the Boyden area until moving to Flandreau, South Dakota in 1945. In 1947, they returned to the Boyden area to farm. Nel operated a beauty shop out of her home for 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian, on October 22, 1998 in Sheldon, Iowa. “Nel” remained at home until moving into the Pleasant Acres Care Center in June of 2004. She passed away at the care center in Hull, Iowa on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, reaching the age of 82 years, 9 months and 28 days.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, Iowa, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the church and the American Legion. She loved entertaining, sewing, fishing and visiting with her customers.
Nel leaves her two children and their spouses to cherish her memory, Arthur and Phyllis Diekevers and Anita “Skeeter” and James Kray all of Boyden, Iowa; three grandsons, Greg and Dori Diekevers; Gary Diekevers; Rick and Brenda Kray; four great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Alex Diekevers; Kylie Kray; Audra Detloff; two great-great-grandchildren, Riley and Trey Detloff; a brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Dorothy Diekevers of Hull, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Vern Ingalls and Gerrit Lode both of Sheldon, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Diekevers of Sheldon, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, May Lode and Florence Heemskerk.
