MILDRED L. SLINGER
Mildred Louise Sophia Slinger, the daughter of Will W. and Marie (Kammerer) Menke, was born August 29, 1918 in Gaza, Iowa. She received her education in country schools and in Gaza. On September 5, 1940, she was united in marriage to Jake Slinger in Worthington, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Primghar area, and later moved into Primghar to make their home. Her husband preceded her in death on December 25, 1979 in Primghar. Mildred remained in Primghar and was employed for many years as a custodian at the Primghar School. Her retirement years were spent in Primghar and later moving to Prairie View Manor in Sanborn. She entered the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn in June of 2006. She passed away at Prairie View on Saturday, February 3, 2007, reaching the age of 88 years, 5 months and 4 days.
She was a member of the United Church of Primghar and enjoyed golfing and playing cards.
Mildred leaves to cherish her memory three children, Bill and his wife, Sharron Slinger of Zimmerman, Minnesota; Julie Slinger of Overland Park, Kansas; Scott and his wife, Trudy Slinger of Baltimore, Maryland; six grandchildren, Gretta, Mary, Jayson, Patrick, Karina and Eli; eight great-grandchildren, Cameron, Hannah, Jacob, Tanya, Benjamin, Nadia, Cyrus and Roya; three brothers and their wives, LeRoy and Jean Menke of Clarion, Iowa; Delmar and Lou Menke of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota and Bob and Rose Menke of Everly, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Bonnie and Sam Crosser of Spencer, Iowa; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, infant grandson, parents and a sister, Lucille.
