MILDRED A. DARR
Mildred Anna Marie Darr, the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth (Thomas) Haht was born January 22, 1922 in Paullina, Iowa. She received her education in Paullina and graduated from Paullina High School in 1940. She went on to receive her teaching certificate at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught country school in Floyd Township and Baker Township in O’Brien County, Iowa. On June 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Warren Darr and the couple moved to Red Lake Falls, Minnesota to make their home. Warren preceded her in death in March of 1954. Mildred moved her young family to Sutherland, Iowa. She worked for the Sutherland Community Schools for 37 years retiring in May of 1994 as the head cook. Her retirement years were spent in Sutherland where she had lived at the Willoway Complex and later moved to the Sutherland Care Center. She passed away at the care center on Monday, February 21, 2011, reaching the age of 89 years and 29 days.
She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, a member of the Ladies Aid, the Concordia League and past secretary of the AAL.
Mildred is survived by one daughter, Lorna Olson and her special friend, Leonard Wondergem of Paullina; a son-in-law and his wife, Bob and Valerie Stofferan of Sanborn, Iowa; five grandchildren, Brian Ames, Alan and his wife, Amy Ames, Lora and her husband, Brady VanderVeen, Jared and his wife, Rachel Rabe and Koren and her husband, Jeff Wobbrock; also 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Delbert Haht of Sheldon and Henry and his wife, Katheryn Haht of Sutherland; one sister, Bernice Herra of Custer, South Dakota, also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Lorraine Stofferan and Carol Ames; twin sons in infancy, son-in-law, David Olson; a grandson, J.C. Ames and her parents, two brothers, Bill and Melvin.
