MICHAEL R. PEPPER
Mike was born Sept. 4, 1945, in Sioux City to Don and Laurene (London) Pepper. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1963. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base at Clovis, N.M., before serving overseas during the Vietnam War.
While in New Mexico, he met his future wife, Sharon Riggs. The two were married Sept. 9, 1967, in Belen, N.M.
After leaving the Air Force, Mike and Sharon moved to Bettendorf while he attended Palmer College of Chiropractic. In 1970, he accepted a job for the telephone company in Sheldon. While the name of the company changed several times, Mike continued to work for the phone company until his retirement in 2001. After that, he enjoyed working various jobs, mostly related to his love of automobiles.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Christine Pepper and her friend, Will Nealy, of Sioux City, and Leah and Brad Sherman of Kihei, Hawaii; two grandchildren, Brandon and Grace Ogle of Sioux City; his sister, Kathy Pepper of Loveland, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Diane Riggs and Judy Beavers of New Mexico; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and two brother-in-laws, Bill Riggs and Robert Beavers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the
Riggs Family Scholarship,
