MICHAEL L. MERLEY
Michael Lynn Merley, the son of Robert Jr. and Julia (Vander Linden) Merley was born on October 27, 1958 at the Sheldon Hospital in Sheldon, Iowa. He received his education in the Sheldon Elementary School and the Sheldon High School. Mike continued to live at home with his parents for 43 years then lived in a waiver home in Sheldon. He enjoyed his new family and staff as he had a special bond with them. He was employed at Northwest Enterprises for 37 years. His duties at the workshop were sorting cans, made pallets and was on the cleaning crew from time to time. Mike went to celebrate his birthday with the Lord on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Unity Point St. Lukes hospital at the age of 58 years.
Mike was a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church in Sheldon, Iowa and also attended First Reformed Church in Sheldon with his waiver home family. He enjoyed going out in the community, attending Sheldon Daze activities, going to Sheldon Orab ball games, socializing, going out to eat, memorizing and putting together puzzles and going to church with his roommates.
Mike will be remembered as a loving person and a very polite guy who always said thank you for anything you did for him. He was a total joy from the day he was born.
Grateful for having share his life is his parents, Bob and Julia Merley of Sheldon; brother, Jeffrey Rider of Williamsburg, Iowa; nephews and niece, Jerome Rider of Puxico, Missouri, Johnny Rider of West Branch, Iowa and Leslie Rider of Williamsburg, Iowa and great nephew and nieces, Billy, Josie and Carly all of Williamsburg, Iowa; also left to cherish Mikes memory is five uncles, Robert (Wilma) Vander Linden of Sheldon, Jim Vander Linden of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Paul (Phyllis) Vander Linden of Ashton, Iowa, Dennis Vander Linden of Phoenix, Arizona, Rob (Renae) Merley of Sheldon; three aunts, Betty (John) Kreykes of Sheldon, Norma Vander Linden of Anaheim, California, Janice Vander Schaaf of Sanborn, Iowa; also cousins, other relatives, friends and his Village family.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Liz Vander Linden and Robert and Gertrude Merley; two uncles, William Vander Linden and John Vander Linden.
