MICHAEL C. SWALLEY
Michael Charles Swalley, the son of Charles and Audrey (Milner) Swalley, was born May 20, 1948 in Akron, Iowa. Mike graduated from the Sanborn High School in 1966. He attended Northwestern College in Orange City and the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Mike graduated from Northwestern College in 1971 and did his student teaching during the fall of 1970 at Sheldon High School. He joined the Sheldon Unit of the Army National Guard, where he served for six years. Mike was united in marriage to LeAnna Ruth Johnson on November 26, 1971 in Curlew, Iowa and the young couple made their home in Sheldon, where Mike continued to teach and coach in the Sheldon High School until his retirement in May of 2006. During Mike’s early retirement, he taught part-time at Gehlen Catholic High School in LeMars. He loved to teach math and coach sports and for the past few years Mike became, “the Voice of the Orabs” on KIWA radio. Mike passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2007, at the University of Nebraska Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, reaching the age of 58 years, 11 months and 23 days.
He was a member of Sheldon’s United Methodist Church. Mike loved life and lived every day to the fullest. He loved his “Annie” and his family so very much. He was especially proud of his two sons, Brad and Scott and his pride and joy, his granddaughter, Olivia. Mike loved teaching, coaching, officiating, announcing on the radio and root beer floats. He most of all loved his Lord and Savior… with whom he went to spend eternal life.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 35 years, LeAnna; two sons, Brad Swalley of Sheldon, Iowa and Scott and his wife, Marcy Swalley of Johnston, Iowa; a special granddaughter, Olivia; his mother, Audrey Swalley of Sanborn, Iowa; two brothers, Mark and his wife, Jana Swalley of Littleton, Colorado; Kevin and his wife, Lisa Swalley of Grundy Center, Iowa; his step-grandmother, Ann Milner of Primghar, Iowa and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
We will miss Him
