Services for Merlin A. Beermann, age 88, of Brandon, South Dakota, formerly of Sheldon who passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon with Pastor Paul Van Maaren, officiating.

Visitation with family present will be from 10 A.M. until 12 (Noon) on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon.

Burial will be at a later date at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Merlin Arthur Beermann, the son of Walter and Norma (Appeldorn) Beermann was born July 24, 1936, in Paullina, Iowa. He received his education from Paullina High School. In 1954, Merlin joined the Army serving until his honorable discharge in 1957. He returned to Iowa and on October 24, 1958, he was united in marriage to Jennie DeRoon in Boyden, Iowa. After their marriage the couple started their married life in Sheldon and moved to Boyden for a short time before moving back to Sheldon to live the rest of their married life. Merlin worked in Marcus, Iowa as a truck driver for MoorMan’s Feeds which he did for many years. He never retired working at many other jobs. His wife Jennie passed away on May 9, 2022, in Rock Rapids. Merlin moved shortly after her passing to Brandon, South Dakota to be closer to family. He passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 15 days.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, also the McGlothlen-Cowie Post of the American Legion in Sheldon. He was involved in the Avenue of Flags in Sheldon and a former member of the Sheldon Fire Department for 20 years. A great honor for Merlin was to be on the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He liked to fish and have coffee with his friends.

Merlin is survived by his daughter, Deb Beermann; son, David (Shana) Beermann; grandson, Zack Beermann; three grand dogs; two brothers, Ronald (Betty) Beermann and Henry Andersen; also, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jennie, his parents, stepfather and six brothers and sisters.
