MATILDA VANDER TUIG

Matilda Vander Tuig, the daughter of Bill and Grace (Uittenbogaard) Kreykes, was born June 6, 1920 in Hospers, Iowa. She received her education at the Hospers Christian Schools in Hospers. On October 9, 1941, she was united in marriage to Mitch Vander Tuig in Sanborn, Iowa. The couple settled in Primghar, where they lived their entire married life. She enjoyed being a homemaker and a mother. The couple enjoyed traveling and for twenty-two years they wintered in Arizona. Matilda moved to the Primghar Care Center to make her home in January of 2001. She passed away at the care center on Monday, September 10, 2007, reaching the age of 87 years, 3 months and 4 days.
She was a member of the American Reformed Church in Primghar. She taught Sunday school, catechism and Bible School for many years and was active in the Reformed Church Women’s Ministries. She liked to do crafts and handwork.
Matilda leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 65 years, Mitch of Primghar; their children, Larry Vander Tuig of Gilbert, Arizona; Linda and her husband, Doug Walvoord of Primghar; Bob and his wife, Becky Vander Tuig of Spencer, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Kris, Tracey, Michelle, Brian, Janean, Angie, Janelle, Kyle and Tyler; also sixteen great-grandchildren, Jamie, Jenna, Alex, Shea, Zachary, Grace, Kaelyn, Emily, Jacob, Mason, Reagan, Cole, Brock, Alec, Kaitlyn and Brennan; a brother, Bill and his wife, Jean Kreykes of Eastham, Massachusetts; four sisters, Arlene and her husband, Mike Rota of Seal Beach, California; Edna Winkel of Sheldon, Iowa; Betty and her husband, Jim Crosby of Apache Junction, Arizona; Bonnie Admire of Primghar, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Ida Kreykes of Sanborn, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kathy Vander Tuig; her parents, two brothers, Arnold and Harold; and three brothers-in-law, Bud Wilch, Richard Admire and Harold Winkel.

God’s finger touched her and she slipped away
From earth’s dark shadows to a brighter day;
God saw the road was getting rough.
The hills were hard to climb;
He gently closed her weary eyes.
And whispered, “Peace be thine.”
To a beautiful garden this friend has gone.
To a land of perfect rest;
Though she is gone she still lives on
in the garden of memory.
