MARVIN H. MEYER
Marvin Henry Meyer, the son of John E. and Emma (Reyelts) Meyer was born June 20, 1930 on the family farm near Boyden, Iowa. He received his education at St. John’s Lutheran School and for two years at Boyden High School. On February 7, 1952, he was united in marriage to Ileen Loges at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Boyden. The couple was blessed with fifty-eight years of marriage. After their marriage he was called into the Army, where he served for two years during the Korean Conflict. He returned from the service and the couple settled near Boyden, where he worked for his father-in-law and later began farming on his own. The couple farmed for almost forty years northwest of Boyden. The couple moved into Boyden in 1992 and he worked for the City of Boyden from 1992 until his retirement in 2009. Because of ill health he moved to the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn in January of 2010. He passed away at Prairie View on Thursday, February 25, 2010, reaching the age of 79 years, 8 months and 5 days.
He was baptized, confirmed and was a life-long member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Boyden, where he served as a deacon, church trustee and a Sunday School superintendent for many years. He was a member of the American Legion of Boyden and the Boyden Kiwanis. He enjoyed farming, gardening, especially his flowers, fishing and was known each year to have a large Christmas decoration display on his lawn.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Ileen of Boyden; a daughter, Vicki Meyer and her friend, Jon Birkholz of Plymouth, Minnesota; a son and his wife, Steve and Crystal Meyer of Boyden and two grandchildren, Cory and Jillian Meyer both of Boyden. He is also survived by his brother and sisters, Wilfred and his wife, Carol Meyer of Hull; Laura and her husband, Clarence Postma of Orange City; Carolyn and her husband, Roger Drenth of Sheldon and Lois and her husband, James Lokhorst of Sioux City; his mother-in-law, Elsie Meyer of George; sisters-in-law, Leona and her husband, Paul Marco of Bigelow, Minnesota and Luella Loges of Boyden; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Rudolph Meyer; four sisters, Elva Mooney, Marion Meyer, Pauline Klein and Augusta Meyer in infancy; four brothers-in-law, Al Mooney, Ed Meyer, Gene Van Wyk and Elmer Loges.
