MARTIN M. PUHRMANN
Martin Miles Puhrmann, the son of George and Emma (Beermann) Puhrmann was born July 7, 1921 on the family farm in Baker Township O’Brien County, Iowa. He received his education in a country school, Zion Lutheran School and at Paullina High School for one year. He entered the Army on February 23, 1943 in Primghar serving during World War II and being discharged on December 3, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois as a Cpl. On April 13, 1947, he was united in marriage to Teddi Willemstein in Hartley, Iowa. The couple’s married life was spent in the Paullina area where Martin farmed, was a carpenter and before his retirement was a fertilizer dealer. He retired in 1983 and was known for many years as having a large garden. He passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at his home in Paullina reaching the age of 88 years, 7 months and 2 days.
He was baptized on July 24, 1921 and later confirmed on May 19, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church where he was currently a member. He was a member of the Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina, the V.F.W. and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed his garden, and family gatherings.
Martin is survived by his wife, Teddi of Paullina; four sons, Miles and his wife, Mary Puhrmann; Mark and Jacque Puhrmann; Monte Puhrmann and Kim Koehlmoos and Michael and his wife, Nancy Puhrmann all of Paullina; one daughter, Melinda and her husband, Dirk Hansen of Paullina; also 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Emily Meyer; and June and her husband, Clifford Miller all of Marcus; one brother, Ralph Puhrmann of Sanborn and two sisters-in-law, Alma Puhrmann of Primghar and Audrey Puhrmann of Paullina; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, George Jr., Lee, Bently and Ray and three sisters, Gladys, Elsie and Ruth.
