MAE HENRIETTA TREI
Mae Henrietta Trei was born February 26, 1914 on the family farm near George, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Fannie (Willemssen) Bonk. She received her education in Grant #4 country school and graduated from the George High School. On February 1, 1935, she was united in marriage to Donald A. Trei. After their marriage the couple lived near Adrian, Minnesota, where her husband worked on a farm. In 1939, they moved to Mae’s parent’s farm near George. They retired in 1975 and moved to Lake Kiowa, Texas. In 1986, they moved back to Iowa and lived in Sheldon. Mae then moved into the Christian Retirement Home in 1999 and then became a resident of the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center Senior Care in 2008; she passed away there on Sunday, March 22, 2009, reaching the age of 95 years, and 24 days.
She was a member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church in George. She served as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher and was a member of Loyal Women’s Circle. She enjoyed doing crafts and was a member of the Farm Bureau Club and served as a 4-H leader for many years.
Mae is survived by her children, Robert and his wife, Louise Trei of Orange City, Iowa; Fredwin and his wife, Faye Trei of George, Iowa; Daryl and his wife, Claire Trei of Fort Meyers, Florida; Donna and her husband, Jerry Feldkamp of Louisville, Texas and Laura and her husband, Thomas Nowaski of Raleigh, North Carolina; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, a brother, Eilert Bonk and two sisters, Bernice Klaassen and Aletha Vaselaar.
