MABEL BERNICE JACOBSEN
Mabel Bernice Ottens Jacobsen, the daughter of Claus and Mary (Vogel) Ottens, was born on March 11, 1920 in Fulton, IL. She passed away on June 30, 2016 at Prairie View in Sanborn Iowa at the age of 96.
Mabel spent her childhood in Fulton, where she later met and married her husband, Marv Jacobsen, in 1947. In 1956, Marv and Mabel moved to Sheldon, IA to manage JC Penny's, then Wolff's Department Store. Mabel enjoyed her part-time work at the Sheldon Greenhouse, their new home on the east side of Sheldon and she was a loyal member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon.
Mabel and Marv had one daughter, Marcia Sue, who was born in 1950. Cancer took Sue in 1978, which left a huge void in Mabel's life. Marv and Mable also enjoyed a lake home at Okoboji. Marv passed away in 1992 after 45 loving years of marriage.
Mabel was known for her contagious smile and constant energy. Her hobbies included making quilts, playing cards, reading and cooking. She was a class act who loved everyone she met.
She is survived by a sister, Helen Sikkema of Fulton, IL; her son-in-law, Terry Rich and family of Urbandale, IA; in addition to several nephews and nieces: David and Joyce Sikkema of Holland, MI; Mary Lynn and Nolan Bogaard of Coralville, IA; Daniel and Susan Sikkema of Moline, IL; Rebecca and Larry DeZeeuw of Ashville, OH; Martha and David Harris of Fulton, IL; James and Deborah Sikkema of Broken Arrow, OK; along with 11 great nephews and nieces.
