LUELLA “LU” WEDE
Luella “Lu” Wede, the daughter of John and Katie (Langholz) Bern, was born May 26, 1929 in Cherokee County, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from Larrabee Consolidated school in 1946. On September 20, 1947, she was united in marriage to Del Wede at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. After their marriage the couple engaged in farming for 45 years, until they retired and moved into Paullina. Her husband preceded her in death on February 18, 1993 in Cherokee. Luella remained in the family home and entered the Paullina Care Center in September of 2006. She passed away at the care center on Saturday, October 7, 2006, reaching the age of 77 years, 4 months and 11 days.
She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
Lu leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Marilyn and her husband, Greg Domino of Schaller, Iowa; three grandchildren, Molly Bainbridge and her fiancé, Tom Mohr of Holstein, Iowa; Ryan Bainbridge and his fiancé, Susie Hale of Paullina, Iowa; Christopher and Nicole Domino of Paullina, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren, a very close and special friend, Jerry Hammerstrom of Meriden, Iowa; two sisters, Velma Phillips of Troy, Missouri; Delores Schueder of Cherokee, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Gladys Stamer of Sutherland, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Everett Wede of Worthington, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Darrell Delbert Wede on October 13, 1949; her parents, John and Katie Bern; two brothers-in-law, Robert Phillips and Clarence Stamer.
She will be missed by many relatives and friends.
My mother enjoyed the life she lived,
Which showed in both work and play.
She worked the farm along with Dad,
And liked gardening and pets in her day.
Mom liked to go to the movies,
And she relished going out to eat.
She loved to travel and lived to dance,
Playing cards with friends was a treat.
She could draw a smile or a chuckle,
With a look, an action, or phrase.
She cherished her time with her family,
And helped us all in the most loving ways.
Her faith was strong; her courage was high,
Her favorite expression, “Oh, Hey!”
She would now finish that thought
by saying these words,
“I’ll be with you all again someday.”
