LUELLA E. APPELDORN
Luella Elizabeth Caroline Frerk Appeldorn, daughter of Henry and Bertha (Lorenzen) Frerk was born March 20, 1912 near Sutherland, Iowa. She was baptized on October 1912, by Rev. Rixmen and later confirmed May 1926 by Rev. Hofferman and was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet. She attended country school and graduated from the 8th grade in 1926. On June 29, 1932, she was united in marriage to William Appeldorn Jr. After her marriage to “Bill” they farmed a short time southwest of Calumet, then farmed southwest of Paullina until Bill retired from farming. The couple moved into Paullina. Bill passed away on September 6, 1979 in Paullina. She continued to make her home in Paullina until moving to the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn on March 4, 2010. She passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010 at Prairie View reaching the age of 98 years and 2 days.
Luella is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Bob Engelke of Paullina; three grandchildren, Scott Engelke, Kris Noble and her husband, Mike and Russell Appeldorn; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Jake Noble. She is also survived by a brother, Lester and his wife, Iris Frerk of Paullina; as well as other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Donald in infancy and Robert; her parents and one brother, Albert Frerk.
