LUCILLE L. HICKS

Lucille Lorraine Hicks, the daughter of Ernest and Ethel (Forney) Nelson was born February 22, 1909 near Cherokee, Iowa. She received her education in country schools in Cherokee county and later graduated from Gaza High School in 1926. On December 4, 1927, she was united in marriage to George Hicks at Gaza, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed in O’Brien County for many years until their retirement in 1969. The couple moved to Spencer, Iowa after retirement and in 1977, they moved to Primghar to make their home. Her husband preceded her in death on February 20, 1989 in Sutherland. Lucille remained in the family home until moving to the Primghar Care Center in March of 2004. She passed away at the care center on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 reaching the age of 100 years and 12 days.
She was a charter member of the Church of Christ in Primghar, and enjoyed spending time with her family, writing poetry and reading.
Lucille is survived by her children, Richard and his wife, Dona Hicks of Sutherland; Shirley and her husband, Otho Kinsley of Primghar and Beryl and his wife, Jan Hicks of Primghar; seven grandchildren, Doug and his wife, Denice Hicks; Denise and her husband, David Steffen; Janet Van Engen; David and his wife, Kay Hicks; Jon and his wife, Shelly Kinsley; Jeff and his wife, Angie Hicks and Dan and his wife, Joni Hicks; 13 great-grandchildren, Dain and his wife, Brooke Hicks; Dustin and his wife, Jamie Hicks; Shane and Jason Van Engen; Anne and Kipp Kinsley; Turner, Kiley, Keagan, Wyatt, Phillip, Alex and Maggie Hicks; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Brianne, Dillon, Drew, Dayton and Drake Hicks also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, Timothy Mark Hicks; her parents, two brothers, Forrest and Wayne Nelson.
