LUCILE E. WOODS
Lucile Emily Woods, the daughter of Paul C. and Amy L. (Luther) Woods, was born April 28, 1904 in McGregor, Iowa, She moved to Sheldon with her family when she was 8 years old. She received her education in Sheldon and later graduated from Sheldon High School in 1923. After high school she began her career working for her father, who published the Sheldon Sun and the Sheldon Mail. After her father’s death, she and her brother, Carol, continued publishing the papers until 1972, when they sold the publishing company. In 1998, she moved into the Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon. The residents and staff there became her extended family. She was the unofficial greeter, waiting to see who was coming and going. Lucile always had a smile and a wave for everyone. She passed away at the Sanford Senior Care on Tuesday, May 8, 2007. She lived a wonderful life attaining the age of 103 years and 10 days.
Lucile was very involved in her community and the United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader, traveler and loved sending cards/letters for any and all occasions. She was known for her love of cats and would show you pictures of her beloved pets whenever she could. Many pleasant memories were made through the years at their family cottage at Lake Okoboji. She will always be remembered for having her notebook and pencil handy to record all social news and events in her community.
She is survived by her dearest and devoted friend, Wanda Dover-Stratman of Sheldon, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Carol and Mildred Woods of Sheldon, Iowa; a niece, Janet Keillor of Mt. Vernon, Washington; and her deceased nephew’s wife, Marie Rodney of Rathdrum, Indiana; several great-nieces and her “adopted” Dover Family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul C. and Amy L. Woods; a brother, Kenneth Woods and a nephew, Paul Kent Woods.
