LOUIS “LOU” H. MASSMANN

Louis Henry Reinhart Massmann, the son of Reinhart and Irene (Fegebank) Massmann was born December 29, 1940 in Primghar, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from Paullina High School in 1959. In 1960, he established a bowling supply store in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On June 15, 1962, he was united in marriage to Linda Van Klompenburg. After their marriage Lou was called to serve in the U.S. Army serving in Germany. Linda later joined Lou while he was in Germany and they were able to travel in many of the European countries. In 1965 the couple moved to Paullina where he helped operate R & I Lanes in Paullina. It was also during this time he was a pro bowler. They sold the bowling alley in 1990. In 1984, he began crop adjusting with Farm Bureau working his way up to assistant supervisor and retiring in 2005. He passed away on Friday, November 20, 2009 at his home in Paullina, surrounded by his loving family, reaching the age of 68 years, 10 months and 21 days.
He was baptized on January 26, 1941 and later confirmed on May 29, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, and at one time had been superintendent of Sunday school. He enjoyed fishing and the annual family fishing trips to Otter Tail and being with family and friends. The couple also traveled to many places, their fondest was Hawaii. Lou also enjoyed golfing, being in men’s and couples leagues. He also enjoyed cooking and finding new recipes. He was known as “Chef Louie” to his family.
Lou leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life; his wife, Linda Massmann of Paullina; two daughters and their husbands, Julie and David Reinders of Orange City, Iowa and Jane and Chad Weber of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two grandchildren, Jordy Reinders and Madison Weber; his mother, Irene Massmann of Paullina; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
