LOREN W. HURTIG

Loren William Hurtig, the son of Hans William and Lucille (Tesch) Hurtig, was born October 19, 1936 in Paullina, Iowa. He received his education at Zion Lutheran School in Paullina and later attended Paullina High School. On December 28, 1958, he was united in marriage to Joan Gabrielson in South Sioux City, Nebraska. After their marriage, the couple settled in Paullina, where in 1959, he started his own trucking company which he operated until 1989. From 1989 until he retired, because of ill health in 1995, he drove for Schuester Trucking from LeMars. He passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at the Orange City Hospital in Orange City, Iowa, reaching the age of 68 years, 10 months and 2 days.
He was baptized on November 15, 1936 and later confirmed on May 28, 1950 and was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his cat, Hallie.
Loren is survived by his wife, Joan of Paullina and their children, Jeffrey Lorn and his wife, Kim Hurtig of Hull, Iowa; Jerry Lynn Hurtig of Paullina, Iowa; Lana Joan and her husband, Gary Mesner of Arnolds Park, Iowa; Lanette Jan and her husband, David Hesse of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Lisa Janelle and her husband, Jeff Steffens of Paullina, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Beau and Chase Hurtig; Justin and Ashley Hurtig; Madison, Emma and Will Hesse; and Kallie, Nicholas, Mackenzie and Lauren Steffens; four brothers, Waldo of Paullina, Iowa; Don and his wife, LaDonna of Paullina, Iowa; Vern and his wife, Pam of Hewitt, Minnesota; and Rich of Bertha, Minnesota; five sisters, Myrna and her husband, Lester Sickelka of Round Lake, Texas; Audrey Underwood of Cherokee, Iowa; Jolene and her husband, Kenneth Specht of Paullina, Iowa; Marge Metheny of Alton, Iowa; Pam and her husband, Pat Hill of Paullina, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Charlene Hurtig of Archer, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Sheryl Rae and a brother, Marlo.
