LOIS L. VAN MEETEREN
Lois Luella Van Meeteren, the daughter of Jake and Merle (Horn) Den Hartog, was born December 18, 1920 on a farm south of Boyden, Iowa. She received her education in country schools near Sheldon. On February 3, 1944, she was united in marriage to Christian “Chris” Van Meeteren at her parent’s home in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage the young couple farmed near Cloverdale, Sheldon and Archer, Iowa and for 1 year by Canton, South Dakota, before moving to Boyden in 1961. She had cleaned for the Farmers Saving’s Bank in Boyden for a few years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris, on October 5, 2001 in George, Iowa. Lois resided at the Christian Retirement Home and lived there for several years, and passed away at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa on Wednesday, June 1, 2005, reaching the age of 84 years, 5 months and 14 days.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, Iowa, and of the UPWO. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, needlework and baking for her family.
Lois leaves her four sons and their spouses to cherish her memory, Daryl and Leigh Van Meeteren of Hendricks, Minnesota; Lonnie and Karen Van Meeteren of Sheldon, Iowa; Dwayne and Laura Van Meeteren and Leland and Karla Van Meeteren all of Boyden, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Elmer M. and June Den Hartog of Sheldon, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Den Hartog of Clarion, Iowa; “Jo” Den Hartog and Dorothy Den Hartog both of Sheldon, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Lawrence; Howard; Don and Alvin; and a sister, Ethel Kuyper.
