LEROY J. FOREMAN
LeRoy John Foreman, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Vonderharr) Foreman was born December 29, 1935 in Alton, Iowa. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Alton, Iowa and received further education while he was in the service. LeRoy served in the United States Army from 1958 until 1962. He was united in marriage to Alice A. Noethe on April 4, 1959 in Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey; the young couple lived in New Jersey and Germany while he was in the service. After his discharge they moved to Sheldon, Iowa. In August of 1970, his first wife and a son were killed in an auto accident. LeRoy, later married Ardis DeWild on April 22, 1972 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. LeRoy worked for the United States Post Office in Sheldon for 32 years, retiring in 1993. After retiring from the Post Office, he drove a school bus for the Sheldon Community School District, Rides RTA, Love Inc. and the Regional Treatment Facility in Sheldon. LeRoy passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at his home in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 72 years, 2 months and 3 days.
LeRoy was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon; the Sheldon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7354; and an active member of the Quad County Riders Saddle Club, where he provided horse-drawn wagon rides for the community during the Christmas and 4th of July festivities. He was a 4-H leader for the Sundown Kids 4-H Club for 5 years. He loved his horses and his dog and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
LeRoy leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Ardis of Sheldon; and their children, Gwen Schilling of Melvin, Iowa; Gerri Foreman of Sheldon, Iowa; Gordon Foreman of Hartley, Iowa and Greg Foreman of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jes, Nick, Dylan, Cody, Cameron, Cullin and Regan; a great-granddaughter, Desiray; and a sister, Bonnie Roder of Sheldon, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice; and a son, Glenn Foreman; his parents and a brother-in-law, Robert Roder.
